Iberia by James A. Michener

Michener, the Pulitzer Prize—winning author and celebrated citizen of the world, came to love as his own. I did enjoy the parts about people, Toledo, museums in Madrid, jamew in the country, cork trees, food and descriptions of the churches.

Unquestionably some of the best writing on Spain For travel not to be frivolous, I think it must change you in some way, if only subtly. Why did Spain, one of the richest countries in Europe, invest so much in gaining control in the New World, then allow the influx of treasure to generate an inflation “which converted her into the poorest country in Europe and one of the poorest in the world”?
