Mostly annectodtal information but with enough background to provide a framework for future reading. But there is too much to Rome’s nearly year history for a whirlwind tour of a single book.

Perfect background reading for my upcoming trip to Rome. Londra non accende proprio. Per ragioni personali ho impiegato quasi un mese a finire questo libro. Tutti e quattro i libri su Roma, Londra, Parigi e NewYork sono collezione di aneddoti legati in maggiore o minor misura ai luoghi.

This is the type of history book that can only be written by a native of the city that it is about. Thanks for telling us about the problem.

Rome provides Augias wi I read the majority of this book while I was sick in bed one weekend. Rome provides Augias with some very interesting stories, and he is an excellent storyteller and writes in an inviting manner that makes his enthusiasm for his expertise evident.

I really loved this book, primarily because it exactly suited my needs at the time. The stories in this book span the roam history of Rome: They are very interesting but it took awhile to get used to the authors style of writing. Fun reading in preparation for our trip in March! He writes elegant prose, sebreti fear of using more literary or specialised vocabulary from architecture, religion or art. I enjoyed this book, but I didn’t enjoy all of it enough to really recommend it for someone who wasn’t going to be making a trip to the city soon.

Rather, it’s like sitting down with a Roman friend over coffee or an Aperitivo, listening to him tell interesting anecdotes about his city.


It was as though it held more relevance to me since I had read from this book. A cross between a travelogue, a history and a memoir. The whole thing suffered that way to by jumping from the days of the Caesars to Cinecitta to Caravaggio. La tecnica narrativa scelta viene spiegata attraverso una citazione che riporto liberamente: Books by Corrado Augias. If they were segerti together by location, or by period I think I would have connected with the stories a little bit more.

The book is a little scattered and could use a unifying idea or strand to tie all segfeti it together.
